Terrorism, seems like an everyday thing nowadays. The news has a story about it nightly. There will always be a column about it on the newspaper, and it will even be talked about on the radio, and terrorism is slowly creeping its way into our social media sites.
Terrorist are making efforts to spread their propaganda through sites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. With growing pressures arising, people are urging for these terrorist to be monitored and removed from social media sites. This is a sticky situation due to our “freedom of speech” so these sites now have to decide what is hostile material and what is just an opinion. Social media sites don't want to be responsible to filter such things, as it is a difficult process. That is why you are allowed to report explicit things on social media but this is not a solution to the problem.
Terrorist know how powerful of an influence social media is, this is why they are promoting themselves on it. They get publicity and social media users get some juicy/controversial things to talk about. But lots of younger users of social media can be very impressionable and this is the issue. Terrorists using social media may give them the power to expand. Its nothing too dangerous but is still another obstacle in the effort to eliminate isis.
this article has really shown me the importance of social media it has in this world. the fact that the world effort has shifted to the digital world just amazes me, it sounds kind of goofy, but in the world we live in today, our technology does have the power to influence us. Wether it is for the better or worse is what we have to figure out. Some solutions to this issue could be a filter eliminating terrorist activity from social media but this will never work 100% and would abrupt our “freedom of speech” and have slight traits of communism
There is hope from the president himself, as he talked about elimating isis and creating stricter gun laws for the future. Lets just hope its the near future
